ACCESS TO LEARNING THROUGH FREE FIELD TRIPS
A Gateway to Discovery and Fun
Each year, thousands of young Hoosiers embark on a journey of discovery and excitement at the Indiana State Museum in downtown Indianapolis or at one of our 11 historic sites across the state. For many students visiting one of our 12 locations, the excursion is much more than a typical school day—it's an adventure into a broader world, often experienced for the first time.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, every accredited Indiana K-12 student and teacher enjoys free admission on field trips. In fiscal year 2024, the museum increased field trip attendance by 13%. More than three-quarters of Indiana's 92 counties were represented with students from 500 schools visiting the museum and historic sites. Overall, 42,369 students were able to have a free and enriching experience.
Our field trip program continues to evolve by extending its reach to homeschool groups and enhancing inclusivity, ensuring that every child who enters our doors is met with opportunities to learn, explore and be inspired. Whether they are marveling at ancient fossils or imagining life in a pioneer village, students are immersed in a learning experience that is as comprehensive as it is captivating.
Field trips to the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites are experiences that broaden the horizons of Indiana's youth. With the steadfast support of our donors, these adventures become possible, sparking curiosity and instilling a deep, lasting appreciation for learning. We are immensely grateful to our donors, whose support ensures that children from all backgrounds can access these invaluable and free educational experiences. ◆
