A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
It has been a great pleasure serving the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites as chairman of the board. Among the most important ways I have been able to influence the museum is by playing a role in strengthening the bond between all 12 sites. Our efforts have led to a better systemwide understanding of the synergies that tie them together as catalysts for lifelong informal learning.
I’m also excited for what is still to come. Angel Mounds is one of our most visited sites and I am delighted that we have been supported by the State of Indiana and Lilly Endowment Inc. to create a new experience in collaboration with citizens of federally recognized tribes who are closely connected with the site and its continued relevance.
The new experience tells the story of why the mounds are positioned where they are, and how their purposeful design illuminates the deep connections binding people together with the cosmos. Incorporating recent research on the site’s cosmology by our partners at Indiana University will leave visitors energized and engaged.
I hope you visit this architectural wonder that is Angel Mounds in November as this new and remarkable experience opens. The story of Angel Mounds will help us all understand the depth and brilliance of the people who built this great city. ◆
Sincerely,
Bill BrowneChairman of the BoardIndiana State Museum and Historic Sites
